Africa-Press – Eswatini. Access to community healthcare in Mahlalini has received a major boost following the graduation of 41 Rural Health Motivators (RHMs) under the area programme’s sustainability plan.

The group comprising four men and 37 women completed three months of intensive training facilitated by the Ministry of Health, with support from World Vision Eswatini (WVE). Their work will directly serve more than 3 500 residents across nine communities in the Shiselweni II Constituency.

“This is a great milestone for Mahlalini,” said Ncobile Mhlanga, WVE Development Facilitator for Mahlalini Area Programme. “Out of our previous 49 RHMs, 30 had aged out, leaving us with too few to meet the community’s needs. This new team ensures we can once again reach every household.”

Mhlanga also celebrated the inclusion of male RHMs in the cohort, a first for Mahlalini. “Men often feel more comfortable discussing health matters with other men. This breakthrough will strengthen our male involvement in health initiatives,” she explained.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony held at WVE’s Mahlalini offices, Shiselweni Cluster Manager Musa Mkhumane praised the strong collaboration between the Ministry of Health and WVE. He commended the government’s move to include the new RHMs in its stipend programme, saying this will keep them motivated in delivering vital services such as household visits, data collection, and regular health reporting.

“This initiative does more than build skills,” Mkhumane noted. “It gives these community workers recognition and support while improving the wellbeing of thousands of residents.”

The RHMs will now be at the forefront of addressing local health challenges, from providing basic care and education to referring serious cases to clinics.

Their graduation marks a renewed commitment to grassroots healthcare and to ensuring Mahlalini’s most vulnerable are never left behind.
