Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Association of Christian Artists in Eswatini (ACAESWA) has mourned the passing on of popula gospel artist, Nhlanhla Mbingo.

Mbingo is said to have passedaway on Monday after a lengthy illness.

ACAESWA Public Relations Officer, Nhlanhla Mathunjwa, reflected that, apart from being a phenomenal musician, the artist also diligently served in the association.

He further sent condolences to the family whilst stating that they would plead for divine guidance.

“We have gathered that one of our members, Nhlanhla Mbingo, has passed away.

“He is known by the association as having served as a diligent member and also serving in some parts of the executive committee. We send condolences to his family and we pray that God be with them in this dark hour,” he stated.

Mathunjwa reminisced on Mbingo’s contribution to the industry by stating that he was the founder of a prominent gospel group and also had groomed other artists in the industry.

“In the music industry, he is known for being a gospel singer who had worked with a number of artists and groomed them. He was the founder of Siphofaneni Born Again Gospel Group and composed one of his most famous songs called ‘Somasha Ezulwini’,” he said.

He added that the success of the song earned him a nickname. He concluded by stating that the association would be in contact with the artist’s family regarding the way forward.

“The song’s popularity made him get the nickname, ‘Somasha’. On behalf of the entire gospel music industry, we send condolences and we will meet with the family to discuss a way forward and get more information on funeral arrangements,” he said.

Mbingo has shared the stage with a number of artists such as Derick Ndzimande, Sipho Makhabane, Khuzizono, Manzini Crusade, Rebecca Malope, Joyous Celebration and the late Vuyo Mokeona to name a few.

He has over the years served in Boards like Somhlolo Festival of Praise, Prison Fellowship Swaziland, ACAESWA, Swaziland Uniformed Service Against HIV/AIDS (SUSA), Swaziland Christian University (SCU) and many more.
