NNLC PRESIDENT:Supporters of incarcerated pro-democracy MPs are shot to discourage them

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Sibongile Mazibuko, the President of the Ngwane National Liberatory Congress(NNLC) says supporters of incarcerated pro-democracy Members of Parliament(MPs) Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube were shot by the police to discourage them from going to court in support of the Legislators.

The trial of the pro-democracy MPs continued on Friday and supporters did not attend after being shot by Mswati’s police merely for supporting the MPs.

The NNLC President said the battle between the King and the MPs was about support from the masses.

“The shooting of the MPs’ supporters was meant to discourage them from going to court to support the Legislators so that it may appear as if they were not mandated by the people to demand democracy, they were on their own”, said the NNLC President.

Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, the police Spokesperson had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

MPs Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube who were leading calls for democratic reforms in Parliament were arrested by Mswati’s police on the 25th July 2021, they are facing politically motivated criminal charges.
