NOMSA SIMELANE IS NEW ACCOUNTANT GENERAL

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Government has since confirmed Nomsa Busile Simelane as the new Accountant General (AG).

For the past two years, Simelane, who is a Chartered Accountant, has been the acting AG following the retirement of Samuel Mbingo in 2023.

The Bachelor of Accounting Science graduate took over the vacant post, albeit on an acting basis, for six months.

This publication has reliably gathered that Simelane’s confirmation is with effect from February 8, 2024.

Her new role will be that of promoting and enforcing effective management concerning revenue expenditure, assets, and liabilities of institutions in all three spheres of government. She leads around 400 accountants under government employment.

“I am grateful to government for the new appointment, and I believe it was God’s deed. As a person who has gained vast experience in the sector, I believe that my immediate role will be to become a strategic partner to government in helping the country’s economy to grow. Again, we will push hard that the Public Finance Management sector has better integrity,” she said.

Simelane has rich experience in accounting having served government for 29 years.

Minister of Finance Neal Rijkernberg also confirmed Simelane’s promotion saying she possesses the required qualifications and experience.

“She also acted for the position since the retirement of the then-incumbent AG in July 2023. She is a Chartered Accountant and holds an MBA, Bachelor of Accounting Science, and other certificates. The provisions Schemes of service were adhered to when she was promoted,” the minister said.

He continued: “I am very proud of Nomsa. She is a hard worker. She has done an excellent job while acting for the AG position,”
