NOW THAT 2022 IS HERE

Africa-Press – Eswatini. We have for a long time been looking forward and counting down to 2022 and now that 2022 is here – so what? We had set economic targets that at this point in time we should have achieved as a nation.

We pronounced our aspirations as we had hoped to be a developed nation through raising the standard of living for all Emaswati to a reasonable level.
However, we have not achieved all our targets though we have made progress in some arears.
For instance, combating HIV and AIDS, combating malaria and other diseases we have achieve great milestones but in some, we have not ferried well.

Though we aspired to be a developed country by 2022 issues of corruption have let us down because we are still battling and instead of improving the gap of inequality, it is continuing to widen in the land yet we are a small population of +_ 1.2 million people.

We still have many issues to tackle but the greatest we need to do is recast the vision to a more achievable time frame with SMART targets that we can realise as a nation.
2022 was not in vain

It was good for us to have Vision 2022 because it was a national platform that enabled us speak the same language of economic development in all economic fronts.

Probably now that 2022 is here – we need to make audits of previous set targets and recast the vision for another time frame. We need to be more pragmatic on set targets and use 2022 as the learning curve for the desired future economic position.

The power of a vision
I have been saying it for a while that having a vision is good for any institution.
In fact, a vision is always the first step in the right direction because without a vision there is no point of reference for that institution.

A vision serves as a blue print of: why the institution exists, where it is going as well as tell of the aspirations and future endeavours of the organisation.
So, from a vision perspective, 2022 was not in vain as all economic sectors were aware of our national aspirations.

A need for more
inclusion in the future
Sharing the institutional vision, and being receptive to other people’s suggestions for the vision, builds a common purpose and that is the route government needs to take.
Hence in recasting the national vision, it will be critical to communicate the vision for the buy in of all economic sectors as well as all Emaswati.

A vison helps people see the bigger picture of why they are working and what direction they are working towards.
Our leaders need to continue to articulate a compelling vision for the future that connects with people who will aspire to join in working towards the vision.

The essence of vision
Visionary leaders understand that a vision cannot be achieved without the help of others. As a result, they learn and understand that it is important to ask other people to share their thoughts and offer suggestions for the vision of the institution.

Visionary leaders know that including others in the thinking and planning for the future, they create a shared and inclusive future, one that everyone in the institution can feel proud of. In recasting 2022, government will need to involve all critical stakeholders as that will ensure inclusivity of the nation

To advance the economic agenda of Eswatini, the country needs visionary leaders in all aspects of the economy.
Visionary leaders are people with a compelling vision for their institution. They can see beyond the ambiguity and challenges of today to an empowering picture of tomorrow.

The advantage of visionary leaders is that they impregnate their teams and the organisation with their vision and fuelled by inspirations, the institution charts its course to the new future.

The nature of visionary leaders
Visionary leaders are not authoritarian or dictatorial; they do not seek control over their teams but they instill the vision such that all team members understand the future of the organisation.

Visionary leaders provide freedom to teams to determine the best path to actualising the vision. And though a vision cannot be achieved in a day, it becomes a discipline to hold the end picture in mind.

It takes commitment to work towards the vision each day, hence visionary leaders know that they need to stick to the course to bring about a positive turn-around in their institution.
2022 is here and though we are not where we endeavoured, we have learned some lessons hence we ought to recast the vision cashing on the lessons we have learned over the years.

Beyond 2022 should be the language that we are starting to speak as a nation and as we wait for the new milestone our leaders should be focused on inculcating globalisation as economic walls continue to fall due to information communication and technology that rapidly changes, altering economies of the world.
