Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini is hosting a high-level African Union Peace and Security Council (AU PSC) induction programme that has brought together over 100 delegates, including ambassadors, military representatives, and technical experts, in a strong demonstration of continental unity and cooperation.

The programme, running from March 26 to April 1, 2026, is officiated by African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, whose presence underscores the strategic importance of the induction in strengthening Africa’s peace and security systems.

“This programme is critical in ensuring that newly elected members are well-prepared to effectively execute their mandate within the Peace and Security Council,” said Ambassador Adeoye. “It reflects our collective commitment to enhancing Africa’s capacity to prevent conflicts, manage crises, and build sustainable peace.”

Eswatini, which currently serves as Chair of the AU Peace and Security Council for March 2026, is using this platform to reinforce its commitment to advancing peace, stability, and constructive dialogue across the continent.

The induction programme is structured into three key segments, Ambassadors, the Military Staff Committee, and the Committee of Experts, ensuring a comprehensive and coordinated approach to peace and security governance. Participants are being equipped with in-depth knowledge of their roles, operational procedures, and the broader African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA).

Deliberations during the programme focus on key thematic areas such as conflict prevention, mediation, peace support operations, post-conflict reconstruction and development, as well as the promotion of democratic governance and constitutional order.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Senator Pholile Shakantu, reaffirmed Eswatini’s unwavering support for the African Union and its institutions.

“The Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini reaffirms its support for the work of the African Union and its organs, and remains committed to contributing meaningfully to collective continental efforts aimed at silencing the guns and fostering sustainable peace and development,” said Senator Shakantu.

“This high-level gathering reflects not only our commitment as Chair of the Peace and Security Council, but also our belief in dialogue, cooperation, and shared responsibility in addressing Africa’s evolving security challenges,” she added.

Beyond the formal sessions, the programme is also fostering institutional collaboration. On the sidelines, Commissioner Adeoye has engaged with key African Union organs, including the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC), the Board Restoration Committee (BRC), and the Human Rights Commission (HRC).

The successful hosting of this induction programme further cements Eswatini’s position as an active contributor to Africa’s peace and security agenda, showcasing its leadership in promoting unity, dialogue, and sustainable development across the continent.
