PEPFAR Partnership Highlighted at Luyengo Clinic Visit

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Luyengo Clinic yesterday welcomed U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, Mark Weinstock, who visited to observe the impact of American-supported health programmes in Eswatini.

The visit, facilitated through Georgetown University’s Center for Global Health Practice and Impact (GU CGHPI) and funded by PEPFAR, showcased how international investment is translating into tangible benefits for patients on the ground.

In his address, Weinstock said he felt honoured to witness firsthand the positive outcomes of the partnership between the United States and the Kingdom of Eswatini. He emphasised that understanding the realities faced by local communities is critical to being an effective advocate and supporter. He further expressed his commitment to return to the clinic in the future to continue learning about ongoing initiatives.

Public Health Administrator Cebile Dlamini thanked the U.S. Government for its continued support, highlighting innovations such as the PEPFAR/CDC-funded Automated Dispenser Machines and additional staffing assistance. She noted that these interventions have reduced treatment interruptions and ensured that patients receive timely care. Dlamini added that such support has strengthened the clinic’s capacity to meet the community’s health needs efficiently.

Health experts observing the visit noted that bolstering local clinics not only saves lives but also creates more resilient health systems capable of responding to emerging public health challenges. By improving access to essential services, communities are better prepared to manage ongoing and new healthcare issues.

PEPFAR has long been a key partner in Eswatini’s fight against HIV and other public health priorities. During the visit, it was emphasised that sustained collaboration ensures that past gains are protected while encouraging innovation and strengthening ties between the two nations.

The visit highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships in enhancing healthcare outcomes. Both the Embassy and Luyengo Clinic reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration, aiming to improve lives across the Kingdom. Weinstock described the programme’s achievements as “an encouraging example of how international support, combined with local dedication, can make a real difference in people’s health and well-being.”

Officials expressed hope that future cooperation will further advance Eswatini’s health sector, ensuring that communities continue to benefit from sustainable, innovative, and patient-centred care.
