Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) has confirmed that the Monthly Awards initiative will continue this season, reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to celebrating outstanding performances across all divisions of local football.
In an interview, PLE Chief Executive Officer Bongumusa “Pat” Vilakati announced that the awards will once again recognise players and coaches — with new categories introduced to highlight emerging youth talent.
Vilakati explained that this year’s edition will go beyond tradition by expanding recognition to include development players who are progressing toward senior team levels.
“This year we have extended our monthly awards breakdown to include young footballers. This is to help motivate the athletes who are still in the development stage so they can earn opportunities to join senior teams earlier,” he said.
Among the newly added categories under the MulaSport National First Division are:
Players’ Player of the Month
Goalkeeper of the Year
Top Goal Scorer of the Year
Player of the Season
Vilakati also revealed that the PLE is considering introducing monthly awards for coaches, acknowledging their crucial role in team success and football development.
“As the Premier League of Eswatini, we are planning to include coaches in our monthly awards going forward. Their contribution is critical to the success of teams and the growth of our game,” he added, drawing parallels to the Ingwenyama Cup, which later introduced a “Coach of the Tournament” award to recognise technical excellence.
The PLE Monthly Awards, supported by key partners and sponsors, continue to serve as a platform that motivates players and technical staff while promoting excellence and professionalism in Eswatini football.
