Africa-Press – Eswatini. Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has departed Eswatini for Luanda, Angola, where he will represent His Majesty King Mswati III and the nation at the 7th African Union–European Union Summit.

The prime minister left on Sunday, November 23, 2025 to be part of the meeting. The high-level gathering, taking place from 24–25 November 2025, brings together Heads of State and Government from both continents to strengthen cooperation and chart a shared path in addressing pressing global and regional challenges.

The Summit will be co-chaired by President João Lourenço of Angola, who also serves as Chairperson of the African Union, and President António Costa of the European Council. Also in attendance will be African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, underscoring the significance of the meeting for diplomatic, economic, and development partnerships.

This year’s Summit takes place at a time of heightened global uncertainty, making its focus on multilateralism, solidarity, and joint action particularly important. Leaders are expected to deliberate on collaborative strategies across key areas including economic transformation, peace and security, climate resilience, innovation, and people-centred development.

The Summit is preceded by a number of thematic forums designed to inform leaders’ discussions. From 20–21 November, the AU–EU Youth and Civil Society Forum convened young leaders, innovators, and civil society organisations from across Africa and Europe. The forum explored policy solutions on youth employment, governance, climate resilience, innovation, and social inclusion — all issues central to the future of both continents.

Running concurrently with the main Summit is the AU–EU Business Forum, held from 24–25 November 2025. This platform brings together entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers to explore joint opportunities in infrastructure development, sustainable energy, agribusiness, manufacturing, digital transformation, and the creative industries. The Business Forum represents a key pillar of the partnership, promoting trade and investment that stimulate growth, create jobs, and advance sustainable economic integration.

The AU–EU partnership dates back to the inaugural Africa–EU Summit held in Cairo in 2000. Over the past 25 years, cooperation between the two unions has grown into one of the world’s most comprehensive intercontinental partnerships. In recognition of this milestone, the African Union Commission and the Delegation of the European Union to the African Union have launched a year-long #AUEU25 commemoration, celebrating joint achievements across infrastructure development, education, health, peace operations, climate action, and cultural exchange.

Cooperation between the AU and the EU is anchored in four key pillars. The first, Prosperity, emphasises sustainable economic growth, regional integration, and the green and digital transitions. The second pillar, Peace, Security and Governance, reflects the unions’ shared commitment to strengthening stability and democratic institutions, including through support for the African Peace and Security Architecture.

The third pillar, People, focuses on human development, education, culture, gender equality, and mobility—recognising that empowering citizens, especially women and youth, is fundamental to long-term progress. The fourth pillar, Planet, underscores the AU and EU’s joint advocacy for environmental sustainability, multilateral cooperation and climate action.

Dlamini’s participation reaffirms Eswatini’s commitment to constructive engagement and its belief in the power of partnership to drive shared prosperity and stability across both continents.
