Africa-Press – Eswatini. Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has embarked on an international diplomatic mission to represent His Majesty King Mswati III and the Kingdom of Eswatini at two key regional and global forums.
The Prime Minister departed from King Mswati III International Airport n Wednesday, October 8, 2025, heading first to Nairobi, Kenya, before proceeding to Rome, Italy.
In Kenya, Prime Minister Dlamini will attend the 24th COMESA (Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa) Heads of State and Government Summit, scheduled from October 7 to 9, 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi (COMESA Summit Official Website).
The summit’s theme, “Leveraging Digitalization to Deepen Regional Value Chains for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth,” highlights the importance of regional integration and the use of digital technologies to promote trade, investment, and inclusive economic growth across member states. Prior to the main summit, a Business Forum was held on October 7, and a Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs took place on October 8, providing an opportunity for leaders to align priorities ahead of the Heads of State discussions.
Following the COMESA Summit, Prime Minister Dlamini will travel to Rome, Italy, to participate in the World Food Forum (WFF), which runs from October 10 to 17, 2025. The forum, hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), commemorates the FAO’s 80th anniversary and focuses on the theme “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future” (FAO Official Website).
The WFF aims to engage youth, policymakers, and stakeholders in transforming agrifood systems, promoting sustainable food production, and addressing global food security challenges.
On the sidelines of the forum, Eswatini is expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with FAO, strengthening collaboration in areas such as agriculture, rural development, and food security. Officials say this agreement will enhance Eswatini’s efforts to improve sustainable food systems and support rural communities.
Prime Minister Dlamini’s participation in both the COMESA Summit and the World Food Forum underscores Eswatini’s commitment to regional integration, international partnerships, and sustainable development, while reinforcing the country’s role in addressing pressing global and regional challenges. The mission is also expected to open avenues for investment, knowledge exchange, and technical cooperation for the Kingdom.
