PM Urges Stakeholder Cooperation before Parliament Opening

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has called for increased cooperation among stakeholders to ensure the successful opening of Parliament on Friday.

The head of Government was addressing legislators and stakeholders on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, during a rehearsal session at Parliament for the official opening of the Third Session of the 12th Parliament, scheduled for 20 February 2026.

“We would like to applaud all the good work that has been done in preparation for the official opening of the Third Session of the 12th Parliament this coming Friday,” he said.

The Prime Minister noted that those involved in the preparations, including the rehearsal session, had worked tirelessly. He expressed gratitude to everyone who had contributed towards the success of the important national event.

He acknowledged that when entrusted with such a significant responsibility, individuals may sometimes feel that their contribution is small or insufficient. However, he emphasised that every role played is vital to the overall success of the occasion.

“For us, it is to encourage you to give your all and your best to whatever responsibility has been assigned to you,” he said.

The Prime Minister further highlighted the importance of each unit fulfilling its mandate to ensure the smooth running of the event.

He also commended the comprehensive report presented by Clerk to Parliament Benedict Xaba, which demonstrated the magnitude of the task involved in preparing for the national event.

He thanked Parliament management for their coordinated efforts, noting that the large number of people involved reflected both the importance of the occasion and the scale of coordination required.

The Prime Minister appealed to all stakeholders to continue working together until the conclusion of the event and urged the nation to pray for its success.

On another note, Senate President Pastor Lindiwe Dlamini expressed satisfaction that preparations, including the day’s rehearsal, were well organised and progressing smoothly.

However, she raised several housekeeping matters. She urged those attending the official opening to switch off their mobile phones or place them on silent mode to avoid disrupting proceedings, particularly in the presence of Their Majesties. She stated that failure to comply with such basic protocols would reflect a lack of respect for the significance of the gathering.

She also appealed to emaSwati attending the event to refrain from chewing gum, describing it as inappropriate for such an important national occasion. Women were further encouraged to observe decorum in their seating posture during the proceedings.

Meanwhile, due to the ongoing Cabinet Retreat at the The Royal Villas, the Prime Minister had to depart shortly after delivering his remarks.
