Africa-Press – Eswatini. The police have destroyed dagga weighing 6 881.179kg, which was worth over E12 million.
The dagga that was destroyed by the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS), Anti-Narcotics Unit at Plantations Eswatini in Pigg’s Peak yesterday, was part of exhibits which were confiscated in the Lubombo and Hhohho regions. Most of the dagga was destined for outside markets, including South Africa (SA), where buyers pay several times more than the local street value. The illegal herb was confiscated mainly from people who had been arrested and sentenced for being found in possession of it, without a valid licence or permit.
It is worth noting that not all dagga which was confiscated from suspects had been destroyed, because other cases were still pending at the various courts in the country and the exhibits would be kept until the matters are finalised. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, said as they had posted on their official Facebook Page, that the police, anti-narcotics unit destroyed dagga weighing 6 881.179kg, which was part of exhibits that were confiscated in the Lubombo and Hhohho regions.
