PSUS SHOCKED GOVT IMPLEMENTED REPORT

Africa-Press – Eswatini. PSUs are shocked that government has implemented the report, yet the matter was being discuss at the roundtable.

Lot Vilakati, the Secretary General (SG) of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT), said they were not against the implementation of the report, but the manner in which government implemented it. He said the report was still on the table and during the talks, they wanted to know how government would implement the report since the appeals dated back to 2016, which meant that workers payment should be backdated. “Even if government was going to say it does not have money to backdate the payment to 2016, we were going to negotiate for a payment plan,” the SG of the teachers’ union said. He added that they did not even know who benefitted because government did not inform them about its plan to implement the report.

Meeting

He said in the last meeting, government told them that there were some other workers who would benefit from the money that was set aside for the appeals, but they were never mentioned and the matter had not been discussed at length. Vilakati emphasised that according to their knowledge, one of the pending issues at the JNF was the implementation plan of the salary review appeals report. On the same note, the Swaziland Democratic Nurses Union (SWADNU) SG, Mayibongwe Masangane, said it was disappointing to learn of such as they were still deliberating on the 2016 salary review appeals at the JNF. “This shows that government is not taking us seriously. The JNF is now useless, as there is nothing discussed to finality without government imposing what it wants,” Masangane said. Thereafter, he said they needed to meet with their structures and with the other sister unions to map a way forward. “Definitely we should act, but our action will be determined by the structures,” he added.
