Africa-Press – Eswatini. Hub giants Manzini Wanderers’ struggles continue after Rangers beat them 2-0 in an MTN Premier League match played here yesterday.
The Shiselweni-based side scored both goals in the second half to punish a wasteful Wanderers side. The two sides came to this relegation six-pointer tied at five points apiece and it was Rangers’ second win of the season. Wanderers, on the other hand, suffered their fifth defeat in the campaign. It was Sandile Tfwala, who broke the deadlock four minutes before the hour mark. He easily tapped in for goal a cross from Sambulo ‘Masoso’ Simelane. The Mthunzi Ginindza-led side added the winner deep in the referee’s time through second half substitute Sibonelo ‘Maswidi’ Mhlanga. This was after he was fouled inside the box and referee Celumusa Phiri pointed to the spot. Maswidi took the responsibility to send Wanderers goalkeeper to the wrong way.
Meanwhile, the Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe-led side dominated play and created more scoring opportunities, which they failed to convert into goals. Veteran midfielder Mancoba ‘Spider’ Maseko was the chief tormentor with his ball artistry, but the strikers let him down. Former Royal Leopard striker Thabiso Mokoenkoane was the main culprit, as he failed to score into an empty net after he was set up by Maseko. The score at half-time was 0-0. Rangers engaged another gear in the second stanza in search of goals. Wanderers defence Marshalled by Sihle ‘Mbalaza’ Mkhonta eventually cracked as Rangers scored their first goal in the 56th minute and deep into added time as Wanderers continued with their struggle in the season. The result saw Rangers climbing to position 11, while Wanderers maintained their 13th spot.
