Africa-Press – Eswatini. Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation continues to set a standard in workplace safety, highlighted by Sibusiso Khoza at today’s 2025 Safety Indaba held at the Luke Commission, where he shared the company’s achievements in protecting employees and promoting a culture of safety.

Khoza, speaking to safety leaders, managers, and workers from multiple sectors, outlined the strategies and practices that have enabled RESC to maintain a strong safety culture. The session took place during the Eswatini Electricity Company’s (EEC) annual Safety Indaba, an event dedicated to sharing lessons, innovations, and best practices in occupational health and safety.

The focus of Khoza’s presentation was clear: despite operational challenges, RESC has successfully strengthened its safety systems, empowered employees, and created an environment where safety is everyone’s responsibility.

A key success highlighted was the firm commitment of RESC’s leadership. Safety and health policies are not just in place, they are actively implemented and reviewed annually. By including safety in the organization’s strategic objectives, management ensures that employee well-being is a top priority at all levels.

Khoza emphasized the active role of employees in promoting safety. Workers are engaged in safety committees, inspections, and incident investigations, which allows them to take personal responsibility for themselves and their colleagues. Practical, experience-based solutions developed with employee input have been highly effective, creating a culture of shared accountability.

Continuous training has been another cornerstone of RESC’s safety success. Employees are made aware of potential risks and the importance of following protocols, which not only improves workplace safety but also boosts morale and job satisfaction. Open feedback channels between staff and safety managers ensure that concerns are addressed quickly and effectively.

RESC’s ISO 45001:2018 certification reflects its commitment to continuous improvement. Integration with other ISO standards, including 9001:2025 and 14001:2015, ensures a holistic approach to quality, environmental, and safety management, building trust with employees, clients, and regulators alike.

All employees are provided with personal protective equipment suitable for their roles. Regular inspections and reviews ensure that PPE remains adequate and effective, minimizing the risk of injury.

While operational challenges remain, Khoza’s message was clear: a strong safety culture begins with leadership and grows through employee involvement. By maintaining open communication, encouraging ownership, and continuously improving safety practices, RESC demonstrates that workplace safety and operational excellence can go hand in hand.
