Africa-Press – Eswatini. Boni Masuku,the Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation(RESC) Group Human Capital Manager has written a memo, directed to all employees represented by the Swaziland Agricultural Plantation Workers Union(SAPWU) and informing them that, the 5.5% Cost of Living Adjustment(COLA) offer will be implemented despite a failure to reach an agreement with the union.
The union had demanded 11% however, the company offered 5.5% and both parties failed to reach an agreement in this regard.
“Management has taken a decision to exercise her right to implement the salary/wage increment as a result of the deadlock, for this financial year(2024/25).Consequently, this memo serves to inform all employees in the SAPWU Bargaining Unit that a decision to unilaterally implement the 2024/25 Cost of Living Adjustment in the August 2024 payroll run has been approved at a rate of 5.5% and shall be backdated effectively from 01 April 2024”, reads the memo in part dated 12th August 2024.
Nick Jackson,the Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation Managing Director confirmed the memo when reached for comments on Tuesday evening.
Gcina Zwane, the SAPWU Secretary General Mhlume Branch also confirmed the memo but said, they were yet to release a statement about it.
“We can confirm that we received the said memo but we are yet to discuss and release a statement about it”, he said.
