Africa-Press – Eswatini. King Mswati and Rwandan President Paul Kagame has signed four(4) Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) including military cooperation and assistance to be provided to the police and Correctional Services.
Eswatini is ruled by Mswati as an absolute Monarch, political parties are banned while human rights defenders and independent journalists are arrested, tortured or killed for criticizing the King or the Government,in demand for democratic reforms.
On Tuesday, Government online platforms reported that,the MoUs were signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Pholile Shakantu, and the Minister of Home Affairs Princess Lindiwe.
“In line with His Majesty’s ‘Nkwe’ declaration, I am happy that several sector specific missions have been undertaken to Rwanda leading to the conclusion of some agreements between our two countries. Some of the agreements are now at implementation stage,” said the Foreign Minister.
Rwandan President Paul Kagame who has been in power for over two(2) decades, is known for arresting and allegedly killing opposition leaders.
On the other hand, King Mswati has been in power for nearly forty(40) years, the King, through his judiciary, recently sentenced two(2) pro-democracy Members of Parliament(MPs) in Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube to life imprisonment merely for demanding democratic reforms.
The life imprisonment sentencing came after the killing of human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko who was allegedly killed by Mswati’s mercenaries, Maseko was the Chairperson of the pro-democracy MultiStakeholder Forum(MSF).
