SADC Troika Chairperson cites eSwatini political crisis again in his State of the Nation Address(SONA),wants regional decision implemented

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Namibian President Dr Hage Geingob,the Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community(SADC)Troika on Politics,Defense and Security has once again,cited eSwatini political crisis in his March 16,2023 State of the Nation Address(SONA).

President Dr Hage Geingob said they were working with eSwatini to ensure the implementation of SADC decisions amid tension in this troubled Kingdom. SADC recommend a political dialogue to resolve the crisis,however,Mswati has been delaying the dialogue in favour of Tinkhundla undemocratic elections that legitimizes his absolute rule.

The President further condemned all killings including that of human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko who was assassinated within his home in January 2023.

“Moreover,as a region,we are working with the Kingdom of Eswatini to ensure the implementation of SADC decisions in that country. As Chairperson of the SADC Organ Troika, we reiterate the SADC position condemning all killings,including that of Mr. Thulani Rudolf Maseko, a human rights lawyer and political activist as well as damage to property,” said the Namibian President.

A questionnaire was sent to Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo,however,he had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

Eswatini is facing a political crisis after King Mswati allegedly unleashed his security forces to shoot and kill dozens of civilians merely for demanding democratic reforms.
