Salary Increment for Civil Servants Amidst Inequality

Africa-Press – Eswatini. It’s been years and, we are eagerly waiting for the implementation of a salary review for civil servants including security officers.

The delay as mentioned in my previous articles, has resulted to financial challenges to a majority of citizens in this country of course some, who fully depend on the working class for survival or a decent meal.

In siSwati there’s a saying; “kuta njengelitulu” and I’m sure some emaSwati are familiar with this saying meant to mock anything believed to be coming but never come into existence.

But rain hardly disappoints and geographically, when we see clouds turning ‘black’ then we know for sure “litayitsela” and indeed the rain will eventually come except when disturbed by the wind.

But I am particularly concerned with the conduct of those in power, in this country more citizens including civil servants and/or police and soldiers are becoming poor and, there’s absolutely no political will to address the financial challenges affecting the masses.

King Mswati and his Tinkhundla undemocratic Government must conduct an introspection to ascertain why the citizens of this country are made to be poor while the royal family and a few with close proximity to the institution of the Monarchy, live a luxurious lifestyle with public funds.

The delay in implementing the salary review is a huge frustration not only for the civil servants but even those who depend on them for survival.

Public Service Minister Mabulala Maseko recently announced that, the police salary increment report known as Phase two(II) has been completed.

This is the same Minister who lied in Parliament saying “Phase two was long implemented when challenged by Mayiwane Member of Parliament(MP) Sicelo ‘KhungaNkhosi’ Dlamini and other MPs”.

The question is; how do we trust the Public Service Minister who is a known alleged corrupt lier?.

Minister Mabulala Maseko was able to secure a top Government position for his wife who was an ordinary teacher and now, is earning a huge salary in the Ministry of Agriculture.

This means, Mabulala is no longer financially frustrated with “kutsenga umshibo wasekhaya”, he abused his powers as a Minister responsible for employing civil servants and, secured a top Government position for his wife to ease the burden or responsibilities as man that include providing for the family.

But some emaSwati working as civil servants are hungry and unfortunately, they don’t have ‘political connections’ or anyone who might help them mitigate the poverty situation, they rely or expect the Government to do the right thing, approve the salary increment.
