Africa-Press – Eswatini. South African Music Awards has paid tribute to the late DJ Mavava
This was during the 28th edition of the awards held in Sun City last Saturday.
DJ Vusimuzi Xaba was one of the artists that the ceremony celebrated during the live show. His picture appeared while singer Lloyiso rendered a song.
Xaba was amongst many other South African fallen music stars such as Ricky Rick, Mpura, Killa Kau who lost their lives over the past two years since the last SAMAs in 2020.
Xaba was a well celebrated DJ who had made a name for himself both in South Africa and Eswatini.
He had graced a number of stages in Eswatini, including the MTN Bushfire Festival. He was a multi-SWAMA award nominee and many of his fans and friends were devastated upon learning of his passing.
He was also known for giving back to the community through various foundations, especially through the Farai Foundation. The spinner was well-known and was taking over the music scene in Gqeberha, formerly known as Port Elizabeth in South Africa. The celebration of the lives lost in the past two years was accompanied by performances by Msaki, Lloyiso and Khanyisile Mthethwa.
Xaba was a South African born, Eswatini raised artist commonly known as ‘Mavava’.
He started his DJing career in Eswatini in 2010 and has since been DJing, mostly in Port Elizabeth where he had settled. He performed at major events such as Elite (Eswatini), back to the city (JHB) and Pure Monate Sundays (PE), where he was known for playing old school kwaito and hip hop. RokaSwazi was the company he formed comprising a 100 per cent youth formed company established in July 2020.
The youngsters produce quality t-shirts. They have well designed logos on the front and personalised number plates at the back, making them the finest brand locally. Xaba made an impact on many people’s lives, including Black Coffee, Ami Faku, Simmy and many other local entertainers.
