Africa-Press – Eswatini. ICT Minister Savannah Maziya has been officially honoured with the prestigious Standard Bank Blue Sheroes Award in recognition of her leadership, resilience and dedication to empowering women and girls in Eswatini.
The award was handed over on Monday afternoon during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology headquarters in Mbabane.
Present at the event were representatives from Standard Bank Eswatini and members of the local media fraternity.
Speaking during the handover, Standard Bank Eswatini’s Acting Head of Brand and Marketing, Nomawethu Jonga, said the Blue Sheroes Award was introduced as part of the bank’s International Women’s Day campaign to spotlight women who are driving transformation in their communities.
She explained that the award celebrates strength, impact and leadership, and was a symbol of the bank’s ongoing commitment to empowering women across all sectors.
Minister Maziya was visibly moved as she received the honour. She described the moment as both humbling and empowering, stating that she felt privileged to be recognised by the public and Standard Bank.
In her address, she urged women and girls to remain steadfast in their dreams and convictions. She said women must unite in fighting injustice, whether in the workplace or at home, and called on girls across the country to stand strong in the face of adversity.
According to the Minister, the country needs “bold women who know their worth and are not afraid to stand their ground.”
She emphasised that progress for women required collective action and solidarity, noting that many barriers still existed for women, particularly in male-dominated spaces.
Also speaking at the ceremony was Lomkhosi Alabi, Head of TPS and Client Coverage at Standard Bank, who delivered a message on behalf of the bank’s Chief Executive.
She lauded Minister Maziya for setting an inspiring example, saying the overwhelming public support was testament to her impact. Alabi added that the bank believed in recognising women who serve as role models, not only in leadership but in everyday acts of courage and compassion.
“The people voted for you, not the bank,” she said, referring to the public nomination process. “Sheroes are women like you. No one is coming to save us as women, but because of you, young women are now dreaming big.”
The Minister was also presented with a gift hamper as part of the celebration.
The Blue Sheroes initiative continues to shine a spotlight on women leading with purpose, and Minister Maziya’s recognition has been described by many as a moment of national pride and encouragement for future generations of female leaders in Eswatini.
