Scarcity of Ethical Leadership Threatens Development – Queen Nozizwe

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Queen Nozizwe Mulela, the Managing Director (MD) of Eswatini Bank, has sternly warned that a lack of ethical leadership poses a serious threat to Africa’s development.

Speaking at the recent 7th Africa Leadership Lecture held at the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale, Ghana, Mulela stated that ethical and servant leadership remains scarce across the continent, undermining progress and good governance.

The MD, who was recently conferred with an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters by the revered University of Development Studies, made a strong call to Africa’s youth to begin discussing new leadership models that promote sovereignty, ethics, and societal well-being.

“Today’s youth must reflect on the leadership styles of the past and explore better ways to lead their nations,” she advised.

Mulela went on to praise UDS for creating platforms for practical discussions on Africa’s development, comparing the university’s approach to the vision of Kwame Nkrumah’s Ideological Institute.

Business Financial Times reported that the Vice-Chancellor of UDS, Professor. Seidu Al-Hassan noted that the Africa Leadership Lecture Series is part of the university’s commitment to leadership development and African renaissance.

He said the initiative aligns with UDS’s mission to provide quality education and community-based research that addresses national challenges.

The professor mentioned that UDS would continue to engage industry experts and leaders to contribute to national development.

It has recently been reported that Mulela dedicated the honorary doctorate to her late mother, and the first Eswatini woman with a doctorate, Professor Lydia Makhubu.

Queen Mulela said when reflecting on her journey, which culminated in being conferred with a doctorate, her heart was so full.

“I am my mother’s daughter! Though she is no longer here to witness these milestones, I know she’s watching from above, smiling with pride. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude.

In all that I have achieved, I didn’t get here alone. It took faith, community, sacrifice, and most of all, the grace of God,” she said emphatically.

Mulela went on to thank the Almighty God for the opportunities, strength, and wisdom poured onto her each day.

“This is a new chapter. A new season. I am walking into it with purpose and peace. Follow your dreams. Put in the work. Take up space and do it unapologetically. You are worthy,” Mulela added.
