SENATOR PRAISES POLICE EFFORTS, CALLS FOR STRATEGIC SUPPORT

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Senator Stukie Motsa has commended the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) for its continued efforts in combating crime, while calling for strengthened support systems, enhanced training, and improved infrastructure to sustain and advance the fight against criminal activity in the country.

Speaking during the Senate Portfolio Committee session under the Prime Minister’s Office, Motsa highlighted the dedication demonstrated by police officers despite operational challenges, noting that their commitment remains a beacon of hope for communities across Eswatini.

She emphasised that continuous training for officers is essential in an evolving crime landscape, where criminals are increasingly adopting sophisticated methods. She said that it is encouraging to see officers undergoing training to sharpen their skills and knowledge. This gives confidence that they are better equipped to respond effectively to emerging threats.

Motsa further underscored the critical role of the intelligence department, stressing the need for modern systems and equipment to enhance efficiency. She pointed out that a well-resourced intelligence unit is key to proactive policing and crime prevention, enabling officers to stay ahead rather than react after crimes have occurred.

Addressing human resource challenges, the senator called for consistent annual recruitment within the police service. She noted that the current workforce is under significant strain, tasked with serving a growing population with limited personnel. Increased recruitment, she argued, would not only ease pressure on officers but also improve service delivery and visibility on the ground.

In addition, Motsa drew attention to infrastructure concerns, specifically advocating for the renovation of the Manzini Police Station. She stressed that modern, well-maintained facilities are vital in creating a conducive working environment for officers, which in turn enhances morale and productivity.

The senator’s remarks painted a forward-looking vision for policing in Eswatini, one that builds on existing strengths while addressing gaps through strategic investment. Her sentiments reinforced the importance of collaborative efforts between government and law enforcement agencies to ensure safer communities.

As crime continues to evolve, Motsa’s call signals a proactive approach, recognising that empowering the police service with the right tools, personnel, and environment is central to sustaining national security and public trust.
