Africa-Press – Eswatini. The sentencing of convicted eSwatini pro-democracy Members of Parliament(MPs) Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube was on Tuesday, postponed again after the International Parliamentary Union(IPU) Committee on Human Rights summoned eSwatini delegation, demanding an explanation on the circumstances surrounding the politically motivated persecution.

It has been disclosed that,four(4) eSwatini MPs and Senators linked to King Mswati who allegedly ordered the arrest of the pro-democracy MPs are in Geneva-Switzerland,attending the IPU Conference, they were allegedly ‘grilled’ and asked to explain the circumstances surrounding the politically motivated arrest of the pro-democracy MPs.

The conservatives and pro-Monarchy MPs who are in Geneva include King Mswati’s sister Princess Ncengencenge, MP Alec Lushaba, a former editor of the State owned eSwatini Observer who wrote an article calling for the arrest of the convicted MPs, Prince Chief Mshengu and Senator Ndumiso Mdluli.

Both legislators are against democracy and were allegedly selected to defend the ongoing persecution of the pro-democracy MPs.

A questionnaire was sent to Speaker Jabulani Buy Cash Mabuza regarding the conservatives MPs trip to Geneva, however,he had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

Judge Mumcy Dlamini who is married to the Supreme Court Judge Prince Majahenkhaba postponed the matter to 30th April 2024, the pro-democracy MPs were found guilty on politically motivated terrorism charges.

It has been disclosed that, the conservatives MPs who are in Geneva had a tough time trying to explain the circumstances surrounding the arrest of the pro-democracy MPs who were convicted for demanding democracy.

Reached for comments on Tuesday evening, Wandile Dludlu, the Deputy President of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) said, as a political organization, they maintain that the pro-democracy MPs were arrested to silence anyone calling for democracy.

“The State has absolutely nothing that connects them with the charges, legally speaking. Our understanding is very clear that, this is a political project to use and abuse the judiciary for political expediency, it’s objective being to scare the Nation as well as use the two MPs as scapegoats and as a deterrence to other would be MPs”, said the PUDEMO Deputy President.
