Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) has welcomed the sentencing of convicted serial rapist Carlos Nhambombe (51), who has been handed a total of 48 years in prison for multiple counts of rape.
The judgment was delivered on September 24, 2025, by Judge Mbutfo Mamba, who emphasized the seriousness of the offences. The court cited aggravating factors such as the violence involved, repeated abuse over several years, and the fact that most of the survivors were minors.
Nhambombe’s crimes, committed over a span of two to three years prior to his arrest in December 2012, mainly targeted vulnerable minors aged between 12 and 15. He preyed on young girls at the Mbabane Bus Rank, luring them away with promises of domestic jobs or money before violating them.
His arrest came after one of his victims spotted him at a health institution in Mbabane, leading to his capture and eventual conviction.
The sentencing has been described as a victory for survivors of gender-based violence and a testament to the dedication of the REPS investigative team. The unit consisted of the late Sergeant Hlengiwe Dlamini, retired Sergeant Sibongile Dlamini, and Detective Constable Zweli Dlamini, who worked tirelessly to ensure justice was delivered.
In a statement, REPS commended the officers for their unwavering commitment and expressed gratitude for their role in bringing closure to the survivors. “This outcome reflects our continued fight against gender-based violence. We remain committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of our society. We are here to serve the nation,”.
The police service reaffirmed its stance that crimes against women and children will not go unpunished, calling on the public to work together with law enforcement to eliminate gender-based violence in the country.
