Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini comedian Sewakhile Dlamini is celebrating a career milestone after being nominated for Entertainer of the Year at the Eswatini Lifestyle Awards (formerly The JumboFest).
Reacting to the news, Sewakhile expressed heartfelt gratitude.
“I was overwhelmed with gratitude. Being recognized at this level is humbling, and it reminded me why I started – to make people laugh and bring positivity,” he said.
For him, the nomination is more than recognition.
“Personally, it’s validation of the countless hours, sacrifices, and risks I’ve taken to pursue comedy. Professionally, it shows that comedy is being taken seriously as part of Eswatini’s entertainment industry, and that makes me proud.”
Sewakhile’s comedic journey began with short skits shared among friends and on social media. Over time, his unique style – rooted in Siswati humor, local slang, and everyday life – began resonating with a wider audience. His sketches capture the daily struggles, joys, and traditions of emaSwati while maintaining universal appeal.
“My work is authentic, rooted in our culture, and represents everyday life in Eswatini. But I also present it in a way that anyone, even outside Eswatini, can enjoy,” he explained.
Beyond the laughs, Sewakhile sees comedy as a tool for unity and healing. He has become an inspiration to many young people who now want to pursue comedy or storytelling after following his work.
“The youth see someone who followed a dream and turned it into something impactful. That, to me, is powerful,” he said.
Looking ahead, Sewakhile plans to expand his digital content, live performances, and collaborations, with stronger focus on platforms such as YouTube and Instagram.
If he secures the Entertainer of the Year title, he believes it will be a victory for the entire comedy industry.
“It will open more doors, inspire collaborations, and prove that our entertainment has a strong place on the bigger stage.”
