Africa-Press – Eswatini. His Majesty’s Correctional Services teams have ruled Eswatini sports this year, raking over E1.4 million from different sporting codes. Leading the way were football side Green Mamba, who brought in at least E1.4 million, between May and this past weekend. Ernest Mavuso’s troops are fresh from winning the E100 000 first round ‘Y’ello’ ‘carrot’ this past weekend. In September, they became E300 000 richer after winning the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Trade Fair Cup. For winning the league in May, they were presented with a E1 million cheque.Correctional Sunrise Volleyball Team are another dominant force in Eswatini. They have won at least E53 000 from different competitions.

Represented

This includes both males and females. They recently represented Eswatini at the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Zone VI Championships in Lesotho. With experience and skills Correctional Sunrise secured third position to bring home E23 000. It was earlier reporter by our sister publication Times Sunday that Sunrise raked in E30 000 from tournaments. In addition, the men and women netball teams have brought in about E37 000 from some events. This is a joint amount of securing victories in SBS Netball League 2022/23 season where they claimed around E18 000. With height and experience, they left a mark in South Africa (SA) Bibs Down Tournament a month ago. The males won gold while females took the runners-up position, thus winning E19 000.

Meanwhile, Correctional A darts team snatched the title from Malkerns A a few months ago. Their sister team Correctional B did not want to be left out, securing third spot. In the Eswatini Royal Insurance Corporation (ESRIC) Darts 2023/24 season league, the teams were awarded E15 000 and E8 000, respectively. Speaking to this publication yesterday His Majesty’s Correctional Services Sports Coordinator Mpendulo Ngwenya, said this showed that players were all out to compete.

“Credit goes to our Commissioner General Phindile Dlamini for allowing players to compete when needed. Our work is very strenuous. As a result sports are used as a breather. Winning ensures that we are happy and in turn work runs smoothly. This also gives confidence that players are able to excel in other aspects as well,” Ngwenya said.
