Africa-Press – Eswatini. Wheels turning in her memory. In honour of late Newcomm Wheels cyclist and Golden Foot Club runner Shirley Kenny-Motsa, a race is on the cards to celebrate her life.

This was raised by Simanga Motsa during the late cyclist’s funeral yesterday, where he advocated for a race that will honour the life of Shirley.

Motsa said Shirley had been an inspiration to many of them in and outside the family in terms of sports, and that it would only be right to recognise her contributions by having a competitive race held in her honour.

“Before I conclude my programme as a young person within the family, may I request to our lovely clubs Golden Foot Club and Newcomm Wheels to at least honour our daughter in law with a race.

The race will be named after her since she was definitely a devoted person in the two disciplines of athletics and cycling,” said Motsa.

Support

In support of the request by his son, businessman Moses Motsa pledged to the people who attended that he would contribute and sponsor the race when it was finally initiated.

“I want to go back to what the boy has said about the initiative of having a race named after Shirley.

I pledge that I will support that” said Motsa

Motsa described his daughter in law as the only person who was able to mend the family in times of disputes and that he hoped that when he died he had someone in the family that could carry the legacy as Shirley was good with numbers.

“Shirley was one person who played a middle-man role in every dispute we had as a family as she came with lasting solutions.

She even carried that to work as we all know National Maize Corporation (NMC) was about to collapse at anytime, but I heard that NMC made a profit of about 20 million and as the first chairman of that place I am proud of her,” said Motsa.

Motsa further mentioned that he would die in her place if given a chance because he was already old.
