SIKHUMBUZO NXUMALO BUILDS TRANSPORT BUSINESS FROM EXPERIENCE

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Sikhumbuzo Nxumalo spent years navigating Eswatini’s roads as a driver, he runs Fenix Car Hire, a growing transport company based in Sidwashini that is gaining attention for its reliability, innovation, and customer-first approach.

The inspiration to start his own business came from a simple suggestion by a colleague. “One day, a fellow driver said to me, ‘Since you’re always behind the wheel, why not start your own car hire company?’” Nxumalo said. “That comment stayed with me.”

Frustrated with slow servicing and inefficiencies at his former workplace, Nxumalo envisioned a company built on speed, reliability, and unmatched customer care. Nxumalo received mentorship from a friend in South Africa’s car rental industry, he took a leap of faith. The road, however, was not without struggle.

“There is no victory without war,” Nxumalo said. “I faced financial setbacks, client droughts, and moments of doubt, but I never lost sight of the vision.”That vision gave birth to Fenix Car Hire, named after the mythical phoenix,a bird that rises from its ashes. The symbolism is no accident. “Even when we face setbacks, we rise stronger,” he added.

Fenix Car Hire stands out for its strong focus on customer experience and safety. “Every customer is a priority,” Nxumalo emphasizes. This philosophy is reflected in services such as 24/7 support, customizable rental durations, and a rigorously maintained fleet. Each vehicle is insured, safety-equipped, and monitored through GPS and speed-tracking systems.

The company’s offerings go beyond standard rentals. Services include airport pickups, upcountry trips, event transport, and chauffeur services. Fenix serves a wide range of clients, including NGOs, government offices, and private individuals. The fleet features SUVs, sedans, vans, and pickups, catering to both variety and reliability.

Innovation at Fenix goes hand in hand with social impact. “Technology allows us to track routes, improve accountability, and ensure safety,” said Nxumalo. Beyond the tech, the company helps tackle unemployment by hiring drivers, car monitors, and support staff.

“This is not just about building a business,we are building livelihoods,” he adds.Nxumalo offers practical wisdom for aspiring entrepreneurs: “ Give it your full commitment , expect setbacks, but stay focused and make sure every deal is backed by paperwork and a trusted supplier.”

Nxumalo’s journey from the driver’s seat to the boardroom is more than a personal achievement. It serves as a roadmap for anyone aiming to rise from humble beginnings to a industry leadership.
