SMOOTH JOURNEYS AHEAD FOR MEHLWABOVU RESIDENTS

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Construction is underway on a key access road in Mehlwabovu under Nkwene Inkhundla, bringing improved connectivity for residents within the community. The Ministry of Public Works and Transport is leading the project, which includes regravelling the full stretch and tarring 500 metres to enhance mobility and service delivery.

The road being constructed is not the main road, but the access road that runs between homesteads, connecting the community to the main route. Area Bucopho Dan Dladla said the road plays a crucial role in linking households to the main road. “This access road is right inside the community. It is the one people use daily, whether heading to school, health facilities or just trying to get out of their homesteads. Fixing it has been long overdue,” he said.

By improving this access road, the community gains not only better mobility but also enhanced safety and stronger links to vital services. Reliable roads can make a real difference during emergencies, ensuring help reaches those in need promptly and that residents can travel safely throughout the year.

Minister of Tinkhundla Administration and Development, Sikhumbuzo Dlamini, emphasised the importance of the project, noting that residents had faced challenges moving in and out of their homes due to the condition of the road. He explained that as a spatially planned area, Mehlwabovu required key infrastructure such as access roads, and government is pleased to have delivered on that need. The Minister confirmed that the project is fully funded by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and forms part of broader efforts to enhance infrastructure in developing communities.

Such infrastructure improvements also encourage social and economic activities within the community, enabling easier transport of goods and access to markets. This can contribute to local livelihoods by opening up new opportunities for trade and collaboration among residents.

While the main road remains in use, residents say the improvement of the internal road will make everyday life much easier especially during the rainy season when the route often became impassable.
