Africa-Press – Eswatini. Standard Bank today affirmed its commitment to digital inclusion and community upliftment in partnership with MTN Eswatini’s Y’ello Care Initiative. Barry Schutzler, Head of Corporate and Investment Banking at Standard Bank, delivered a formal address at the launch of MTN Eswatini’s 2025 “21 Days of Y’ello Care” initiative, emphasizing the crucial role of strategic partnerships in fostering community development.
He highlighted Standard Bank’s core philosophy: “At Standard Bank, we firmly believe that change is never achieved in isolation. It is built through partnerships, through collective effort, and through a deep, unwavering commitment to uplifting communities..
He expressed immense pride in the collaboration with MTN and other esteemed partners, affirming that these joint efforts “amplify, empower, and most importantly, transform lives.”
This year’s Y’ello Care theme, “Connecting Communities Through Digital Platforms,” resonated strongly with Schutzler, who called it “a commitment to ensuring that technology is not a privilege for the few, but a lifeline for all.”
Standard Bank’s significant contribution is the funding of solar-powered boreholes at Mbukwane Primary School and Mkhuzweni Primary School.
“For Standard Bank, our contribution is simple yet profound: water is life, and access to it is a right, not a challenge,” he explained. These installations will provide essential clean water, thereby improving learning environments, health, and sanitation standards, and fostering hope for the children in these communities.
Schutzler also recognized the diverse contributions of other partners, including e-commerce and e-market platform training, AI training for rural teachers, road access projects to connect remote schools, and a community podcast initiative. “This is more than innovation it is transformation, and it is happening because we are working together,” he remarked, praising MTN’s dedication to purposeful partnerships.
Standard Bank’s commitment is deeply embedded in its ethos: “Eswatini is our Home, we drive Her growth,” reflecting its intentional contribution to the nation’s just energy transition and increased energy access, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Schutzler concluded by urging attendees to view “21 Days of Y’ello Care” as an enduring movement, calling for sustained commitment to the initiated work beyond the campaign. “Because real change is not about words, it is about action. It is about persistence. It is about showing up for those who need us the most,” he stated, reinforcing the shared responsibility to build, connect, and empower for a global transformation.
