Taiwan Donated Quantum to Assist DPM in ‘Grabbing’ Employed Emaswati who Neglected Elderly Parents Back Home, PUDEMO President Says “Taking Care of Parents not a Legal but Moral Obligation”

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Mlungisi Makhanya, the President of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) says “taking care of your parents is not a legal but a moral obligation” hence there’s no way a person could be forced by Government to take care of his/her parents.

Reacting to a new program ‘Khumbulekhaya’ introduced by Deputy Prime Minister(DPM) Thulisile Dladla seeking to ‘grab’ and force emaSwati to remember and take care of their parents back home, the PUDEMO President said, some emaSwati have different reasons why they decided not to go back home and this include family disputes, witchcraft and other conflicts beyond their control.

“As a person, you are legally obligated to take care of your children and your spouse and, you can be taken to court for neglecting your children and your spouse. But when it comes to parents, brothers, sisters and other relatives, it’s a moral obligation to be responsible and take care of your parents and relatives. It is the duty of the Government to take care of elderly citizens through social grants because these senior citizens contributed to the economy. Benefiting from the elderly grant should be based on whether your children are working or but, it’s a Government social benefit for all elderly people.”, said the PUDEMO President.

It has been disclosed that, the DPM will soon introduce the program seeking to visit communities and expose individuals who neglected their parents back home, the Office of the DPM will collaborate with Eswatini TV and Taiwan has already donated a Quantum for the project.

On another note, Government is seeking to remove elderly citizens whose children are employed, from benefiting or receiving the elderly grants and in the process, emaSwati will be exposed through Eswatini TV for neglecting their parents.

DPM Thuli Dladla when accepting the donation from Taiwan Ambassador Jeremy Liang last week said, the Quantum will assist in the program, she then thanked the Ambassador for the donation.
