Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has donated E10 000 worth of boy hygiene packs to the Eswatini Observer’s The Boy Child Matters Campaign.

The handover was done at the embassy on Friday morning with the Ambassador Jeremy Liang.

The ambassador said that he was happy to be part of this initiative as it will help the boy child not to feel neglected as they are all made to believe that men are a superior social group to women, but it must be recognised that the boy child is also a victim: of gender conditioning, socio-cultural norms, bad examples, violence and more.

It has been suggested that a neglected boy child generally grows up to be a bigger danger to society than girls. This is the tip of the iceberg, as there are so many reasons we should be giving the boy child just as much attention as well.

“We are happy to join Eswatini Observer on this brilliant concept, which does not leave the boy child behind. I encourage companies and individuals to join in to make the world a better place,” he said.

Eswatini Observer began this campaign on May 10, 2023 which aims to address the problem of gender violence and discrimination in a new way. Instead of saving the girl child, here they are also trying to save the boy child.

This campaign is aimed at commemorating the International Day of the Boy Child, which is celebrated globally tomorrow, May 16.

Every time the boy child is told that they shouldn’t cry, by doing that we are perpetuating gender bias. Every time we brush aside everything they do with a ‘boys will be boys’, we are perpetuating gender bias.

Young minds are impressionable and it is important to nurture and mould them in a positive way.

In its campaign, Eswatini Observer is trying to address the problem of gender violence and discrimination in a new way. Instead of saving the girl child alone, here they are also trying to save the boy child.

Eswatini Observer has also partnered with SOS Children’s Villages and Kwakha Indvodza in order to include boys in the conversation about gender equality.

It is noted that the boy child has not received much attention and support, hence they are vulnerable to negative influences in society, which then contributes to the rising number of gender-based violence and other social ills in society.

Eswatini Observer believe this is an important initiative that draws attention to misguided boys’ transition into manhood and how it can get difficult if not paid attention to. In the cause to achieve gender equality, it won’t be achieved if boys remain neglected.

This day is celebrated to spread awareness of the rights of children all over the world and to improve the welfare of children.

You can support this cause by buying the following items:
