Africa-Press – Eswatini. Tanzania’s Accountant General (AG) Leonard Mkude and his team are here to help Eswatini adopt an accounting standard that will help the Government improve transparency on the use of public funds.

Mkude and his team will be here for a week and they are here to help the country’s office of the Accountant General (AG) adopt what is known as the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSASs). This means they might leave this coming weekend.

On Thursday last week, Mkude and his team made a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini at the Private and Cabinet Offices in Mbabane. They told the prime minister that they were here to help the local AG on the adoption of PSASs.

IPSASs is a reporting framework that will assist with improving transparency and accuracy in the reporting for public funds. During the meeting, the premier noted that currently, Eswatini does not include Government assets in its financial statements hence these standards are a necessity.

He described Tanzania as the leading country in Africa, when it comes to the adoption of IPSASs and the delegation is in the country for a week. Amongst other things, Mkude and his team will assist with the assessment of the current reporting framework, draw up a roadmap and hand hold the Accountant General’s Office in the adoption of the IPSASs.

“His Majesty’s Government is fully behind the success of this project and we are grateful to the Government of the Republic of Tanzania for their support,” Dlamini said.
