THREE MINISTERS INSPECT REBUILT KAGWEBU BRIDGE

Africa-Press – Eswatini. A sense of renewed hope filled the air at KaGwebu, where three cabinet ministers gathered to inspect the newly reconstructed KaGwebu Bridge, a vital infrastructure project completed following its destruction earlier this year by torrential rains.

Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla, Minister of Public Works and Transport Chief Ndlaluhlaza Ndwandwe, and Minister for Tinkhundla Administration and Development Sikhumbuzo Dlamini visited the site on 18 July 2025 to assess the nearly finished bridge, which has now been restored to serve the surrounding communities.

The bridge, which had become impassable following heavy flooding, has been rebuilt through a collaborative effort between the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. The reconstruction marks a significant step forward in reconnecting residents to essential services and easing transport challenges in the region.

Efficient Work Praised

Speaking at the site, DPM Dladla praised the engineers and contractors for completing the project in a timely and efficient manner.

“When projects are delayed, not only is money lost, but lives are disrupted,” said Dladla. “We are pleased that this bridge has been completed swiftly and to a high standard. It restores dignity and stability to the people of KaGwebu.”

The DPM emphasised the importance of accountability and timely delivery of public infrastructure, particularly in rural areas often hardest hit by extreme weather events.

A Critical Link Restored

The KaGwebu Bridge is a critical connection for residents, enabling access to schools, clinics, markets, and emergency services. Its reconstruction is part of government’s broader strategy to build resilient infrastructure capable of withstanding climate-related disasters.

Minister Ndwandwe and Minister Dlamini also expressed appreciation to the community for their patience during the rebuilding process, and reassured them of government’s ongoing commitment to improving rural infrastructure.
