Africa-Press – Eswatini. Sprint sensation, Oarabile Tshosa started the year on a high note powering through the finish line to qualify for the 2022 Africa Senior Championships.
Tshosa clocked 23.58 during the Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) series that was held at the National Stadium on Saturday. Belindah Lokose claimed the second position with 25.35 while Tshepang Manyika coming third with a time of 26.41.
Tshosa went on to claim the 100m race recording 11.77. Manyika finished second with a time of 12.77 and Boitshepo Moloi stopping the clock at 13.19 to claim the third place. BAA vice president, Oabona Theetso told Sport Monitor that the series went according to plan despite the absence of prominent athletes. “The young athletes proved that they have a lot to offer. This is the future of athletics.
Tshosa is one of the athletes who brought out perfection at the competition. So already we have one athlete inside the Africa Senior Championships,” he said. Theetso said at end of this month (January 29), the series will be held in Francistown. He said the BAA plan is to host six series divided between north and south regions.
He explained that in between there are some events that will be hosted by clubs such as Lefika relays and the Gaborone International Meet (GIM). “Our schedule is tight this time around because we want to give our athletes opportunities to qualify for major competitions in good numbers.
For every competition that we compete in, we should bring medals. It is not about the colour but a medal has to come home,” he said. Other results: 100m senior men: Heat one was won by Mompoki Powane: 10.92. Keorapetse Lesotlho finished second with a time of 10.95 while Tomotomo Yame came third with 11.79. Thuso Masasa claimed second heat with a time of 10.52 followed by Caspar Motswagothata who brought home 10.96.
Keaitse Moabi stopped the clock at 11.12 to finish third. Thapelo Monaiwa won the senior men 400m race heat one with a time of 48.97 followed by Tlotlo Mahempe with 49.59 and Seboko Kago completed the top three clocking 50.68.
The second heat was claimed by Seribe Omphile recording 48.69. Thuso Moseki came second to record 49.72 and Alison Kenosi was third after running 49.79.
