Africa-Press – Eswatini. Lungelo Zulu, the Executive Director of uMhluma Foundation, an organization that advocates for the welfare of widows, is allegedly defrauding the same widows large sums of money.
One of the victims is Gogo Sisana Msibi of Mbikwakhe who died last week, while her relatives were flooding the uMhluma Offices in Manzini, demanding ninety thousand Rands(R90,000.00) for Gogo Msibi who was critically sick.
The Executive Director is alleged to have taken advantage of Gogo Msibi who had sold her plot and pledged to keep the money safe for her within the account of uMhluma Foundation.
But the transaction was subsequently discovered by Board Members of the Foundation who questioned Zulu why he was collecting money from widows when in fact, the organization was fully funded by international donors.
“We told him to pay back the money but he was reluctant. I then called the Deputy Prime Minister(DPM) Thuli Dladla and reported him. The DPM tried to intervene and told him to pay back the money but he opted to lie and say, he wanted to send the money but the problem was that, lomndeni ubanga sidvumbu. Umbuto utsi abeyitsatselani lemali ngoba watsi noma atjelwa kutsi Gogo, lomnikati walemali ugula matima some weeks ago ucela imali yakhe, wala nayo. Nyalo Gogo sewufile, sewucamba emanga utsi kubangwa sidvumu ngiko angati kutsi imali ayinike within the family members. Apart from Gogo Msibi, there’s another woman who instructed lawyers to demand her fourteen thousand Rands(R14,000.00) from Zulu. You will also get that story, many widows have been conned their money. He pretends to be a lawyer representing widows. Gogo Sisana Msibi when asked why he gave Zulu the R90,000.00, she said the money was safe with her lawyer who is representing widows. She only realized after being told by family members that Zulu “is not a lawyer” and demanded her money back.Unfortunately, she was very sick and subsequently died about two(2) weeks ago”, said a member of the Board of Directors who leaked the story.
The Executive Director had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
On another note, uMhluma Foundation is a non-profit organization that receives funding from international donors to assist widows but, allegations of corruption and defrauding the same widows have emerged against the Executive Director.
