Africa-Press – Eswatini. The University of Eswatini (UNESWA) celebrated a major milestone , as it graduated its first group of students trained in Artificial Intelligence (AI), showcasing the institution’s commitment to equipping Emaswati with skills for the modern workplace.
The ceremony was on December 5,2025 held at the George Hotel in Manzini, bringing together professionals from across the country.
More than 500 graduates from sectors including education, law enforcement, the judiciary, and other public services successfully completed six weeks of intensive AI training.
The programme was designed to give participants practical tools to apply AI in their daily work, improving efficiency and service delivery for the communities they serve.
Speaking at the event, UNESWA Vice Chancellor Professor Justice Thwala encouraged graduates to embrace the technology they had learned and use it to make a meaningful difference in their workplaces.
“Artificial Intelligence is no longer just a concept it is a tool that can transform how we work and serve our communities. I urge all of you to take what you have learned and apply it to create real Impact,” he said.
Manzini Regional Education Officer Lungelo Nhlengethwa, who also participated in the training, highlighted the importance of teachers gaining digital skills to improve learning outcomes.
“Our classrooms are changing, and we need to ensure that both educators and learners are ready for the future. This training has equipped us with skills we can take straight back into our schools,” he said.
Principal Magistrate Fikile Nhlanatsi, representing the judiciary, added that AI is increasingly essential in courts, supporting research, case management, and decision-making.
UNESWA said this graduation is just the beginning, with plans to train even more professionals from various sectors to help Eswatini embrace digital transformation and innovation.
