Africa-Press – Eswatini. In partnership with the Taiwan Technical Delegation, the Ministry of Agriculture has last week hosted an aquaculture seminar.

In fact, the seminar was for Animal and Plant Inspection and Quarantine Bureau. This publication has gathered that the main aim was to train the officers on tilapia breeding, common diseases and treatments and sanitary control of aquaculture stations.

This will help them be able to have a better understanding of the operations within the aquaculture industry.

Futhermore, the training was set to boost the officials so that they provide more accurate guidance and support in production because diversifying production is part of the Ministry of Agriculture Strategic Plan 2018-2023. Minister of Agriculture Mandla Tshawuka said he believes everyone is capable to turn around the economy of Eswatini.

He stated that statistics prove that agriculture sustains the livelihood of about 75 percent of Eswatini population; hence the ministry appreciates any kind of help that contributes in achieving that.

“We are willing to assist in importing the necessary drugs for treating fish diseases and we intend to work with Taiwan’s technical delegation to formulate future cooperation strategies aimed at promoting the development of Eswatini’s aquaculture industry,” he said.
