Africa-Press – Eswatini. Former Mbabane Highlanders player Xolani ‘Papi’ Sikhondze is heavily linked with a move to hub giants Manzini Wanderers before the deadline of the registration window tonight.
Sikhondze is currently in talks with ‘Weslians, who have signed another former Highlanders player Mlamuli ‘ Mlaba’ Nkambule on a one-season contract ahead of the crucial Momo Cup play-offs clash against the capital city giants at Mavuso Sports Centre on Sunday.
The maroon and white ensemble also have two former Highlanders players in their books in playmaker Menzi Mamba and goalkeeper Phila Mamba.
The seasoned Sikhondze was previously linked with a move to Green Mamba, which did not come to fruition.
The combative central midfielder once had a brief stint with the ‘Weslians’ about seven seasons ago.
Wanderers General Manager Mlungisi ‘Mluka’ Ndzinisa confirmed their talks with the former Desportivo de Maputo player.
“We are working around the clock to sign ‘Papi’ in our quest to assemble a competitive team after successfully signing ‘Mlaba’Nkambule. We are assembling a team which will be remembered for many years. We want to deliver a trophy in order to move on well, so these signings show just that,” Ndzinisa said.
He said their eyes were glued to the prize, adding that people should not be fooled by those who were doing everything to stop them from breaking their existing records.
“After almost seven years of dominance over us by Highlanders, the red button will be pressed on Sunday, it’s a big stop. We are going all out,” he said.
