Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Municipal Council of Mbabane is in the process of placing waste drop-off zones across the city, in an effort to sustainably manage waste within the capital.

Two of the drop-off zones have already been placed Super Spar shopping centre and Build It, as these areas can be counted among the busiest in the city.

Municipal Council of Mbabane’s Information and Public Relations Officer (IPRO) Lucky Tsabedze officially confirmed the establishment of two centralised waste drop-off points at Built It and Super Spar shopping centres.

He further divulged that these sites were under the stewardship of two community-based organizations, namely, Yibutse Green Action from Msunduza Township and Imizamo Yetfu from Makholokholo, both comprising trained and committed personnel tasked with overseeing the waste management processes.

The Mbabane Council’s mouthpiece further expounded that plans are underway to establish three additional centralized waste drop-off points, which would grant Authorized Waste Collectors the opportunity to assume managerial roles, facilitating waste management and leveraging the initiative as a source of livelihood. These sites are yet to be formally established, but their potential to empower local communities and boost sustainability efforts is already highly anticipated.
