Africa-Press – Eswatini. Former Ward Two Councillor John Dlamini was nominated under the Indvuna Yenkhundla category at Mbabane East, which also enjoyed the nomination of a person with disability, but no youth or women would-be candidates.
The Mbabane East constituency embarked on their nomination exercise yesterday at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology Hall which was graced by over 100 residents, who excitedly participated in the nomination process despite it having taken place on a Sunday
The nomination process was vibrant as the residents were clear on who they wished to nominate as the three categories up for nomination had a total of 20 would-be candidates across them.
Bucopho category enjoyed the nomination of seven nominees who included two women, Indvuna Yenkhundla category enjoyed the nomination of six candidates and the MP category received eight nominations of whom two were women.
Dlamini (60) was nominated alongside Mfanasibili Zwane (48), Elliot Tsela (48), Desmond Dlamini (48), Martin Dlamini (42) as well as Mduduzi Dlamini (65) in the same category, which shows that the Indvuna yenkhundla category at Mbabane East was dominated by men.
The nomination was swift as candidates nominated five candidates for the different categories.
The Bucopho category enjoyed the nomination of two women in Phetsile Baker (39), who was a crowd-puller as the hall had to be called to order after she was nominated, as well as Ntombemhlophe Mabundza (55).
They were nominated alongside the constituency’s former Bucopho Mhlonipheni Mazibuko, whose nomination shook the house as his supporters eagerly applauded his nomination, which would allow him to run for the same position he was successful in during the 2018 elections.
Also in the race for Bucopho were Thulani Tsela (45), Sikhumbuzo Mhlanga (39), Khulekani Mncina and Ncamiso Khumalo (39).
The most common theme of the day was the nomination of soccer personalities as most other candidates were self-employed.
Of the eight nominees for the MP position, two of the candidates were renowned sports personalities in the soccer profession in Sidwashini United Director Vincent ‘Zaraha’ Mamba, and Mbabane Swallows goalkeeper Sandile ‘Nkomishi’ Ginindza.
Dangerous Darkies Director Mduduzi Robert ‘Deyker’ Dlamini is also a sports personality who was nominated to run for the Indvuna Yenkhundla position. Furthermore, of the 20 nominees, four were women which was much to the dissatisfaction of most residents, who felt there should have been more women nominated.
