EZULWINI – Over 2 700 young emaSwati have successfully graduated from a nationwide Digital Skills Training Programme spearheaded by the Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM), marking a significant step towards equipping youth with the skills required to participate in the modern digital economy.
A total of 2 763 participants completed the programme, which was implemented across different regions of the country. The training initiative was designed to provide young people with essential digital competencies that can improve their employability and enable them to adapt to the rapidly evolving technology-driven world.
Graduation ceremonies were held at several centres nationwide. In Ezulwini, 1 327 students completed the programme, while 687 graduated in Siteki, 441 in Lavumisa, and 308 in Simunye. The initiative forms part of ESCCOM’s broader efforts to bridge the digital divide and ensure that young people from both urban and rural communities have access to digital knowledge and opportunities.
The programme also reflects the commission’s mandate to promote the development of information and communication technologies in the country and to ensure that emaSwati are not left behind in the global digital transformation.
The initiative was implemented in partnership with organisations committed to youth empowerment and digital inclusion, including the MTN Eswatini Foundation, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Small Enterprises Development Company (SEDCO), the Eswatini National Youth Council and Wanderport Eswatini.
In addition to promoting digital literacy, ESCCOM is also nurturing creative talent through initiatives such as the Schools Short Film Competition, which introduces learners to the film and television production industry.
ESCCOM Broadcast Manager Ndzabukelwako said the competition provides learners with early exposure to the creative industry while helping them develop storytelling and production skills.
He added that learners also benefit from masterclass sessions facilitated by industry professionals who share practical knowledge on filmmaking, scriptwriting and production techniques.
Through initiatives such as the Digital Skills Training Programme and the Schools Short Film Competition, ESCCOM continues to empower young emaSwati with both technical and creative skills, preparing them to compete in an increasingly digital and media-driven global environment.
