Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Manchester City playmaker, Kevin De Bruyne, has said he was proud after winning the Premier League Player of the Season award ahead of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

De Bruyne was on Saturday named the Premier League Player of the Season ahead of Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joao Cancelo, Jarrod Bowen, Bukayo Saka, Son Heung-min and James Ward-Prowse.

The Belgium international joins an elite group of players to win the award in more than one Premier League season, emulating the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry, and Nemanja Vidic.

De Bruyne, who last won the prize in 2019/20, has been pivotal to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side in pole position to lift their sixth Premier League Trophy this season.

Speaking after winning the award, De Bruyne told Man City’s official website: “To win this award for a second time is an achievement that I am really proud of.

“There is so much quality in the Premier League and it is a pleasure to be nominated with so many other great players who have had incredible seasons for their clubs.

“Thank you to all of the staff, coaches and especially my teammates because without them, this wouldn’t be possible.”

De Bruyne has scored 15 goals and provided a further seven assists in only 29 appearances.

The 30-year-old will now look to add to those totals when Man City host Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, knowing a win would guarantee they retain the Premier League title.
