Ethio-Somaliland MoU Fits in with Regional Integration Framework: Political Analyst

Africa-Press – Ethiopia. The Memorandum of Understanding signed between Ethiopia and Somaliland fits in with the framework of regional integration, according to a political analyst.

In an exclusive interview with Ethiopian News Agency, the analyst Abdel Shakur Abdel Samad Hassan stated that the memorandum enhances regional integration and curbs economic and security challenges in the region.

“This project fits in with the framework of regional integration as it links countries of the region to cooperate in tackling economic and security challenges together.”

According to him, the region needs to have a real bloc and this may be the nucleus to a practical bloc that links countries with economic and social projects to achieve development.

The analyst Abdel Shakour explained that the memorandum will contribute to the implementation of a free zone and expands infrastructures that serve the communities in the Horn of Africa as a whole.

Moreover, it would enable Ethiopia to play active role in BRICS bloc it recently joined.

Urging collaboration of the regional states for the renaissance of all, Abdel Shakour stressed that there should be no hostility between sisterly countries.

Ethiopia has been adhering to good-neighborly relations by maintaining peace and security in the region and paying dearly for it, Abdel Shakur noted.

The analyst recalled the positive role that Ethiopia has been playing in supporting countries and called for all partners to appreciate the efforts and allow it to have a regional role, and this is not too much for Ethiopia.

He further underscored the need for Ethiopia to boost its economy.

“When Ethiopia does this (boosts its economy), it reflects positively on the neighboring countries to a fundamental degree and then on the region and the entire world. There are huge opportunities for agriculture, industry, mining, and energy. And the country has the right to implement them and benefit its allies and partners.”

Abdel Shakur finally noted that Ethiopia has a promising future, but added that it needs to enhance the development because the challenges are many and the opportunities must be exploited properly and appropriately.
