Africa-Press – Ethiopia. The relations of Ethiopia and South Sudan exemplifies the development of stronger bonds between brotherly countries and people, Institute for Foreign Affairs (IFA) Executive Director Jafar Bedru said.

Opening a three-day capacity building training for South Sudanese diplomats in Addis Ababa today, IFA Executive Director Jafar Bedru underscored the role of diplomacy in addressing common problems, understanding geopolitical complexities, and seeking common solutions.

The training, which aims to enhance diplomatic skills and address regional challenges, mainly focuses on diplomacy, trans-boundary resources, and peace and security, it was learned.

According to the executive director, the training is in particular aimed at enhancing the skills of diplomats of South Sudan in conflict resolution, maintaining peace and security as well as managing transboundary resources.

Noting that Ethiopia has always stood by the people and Government of South Sudan during trial and tribulations, he added that history exemplifies the development of stronger bonds between the two brotherly countries and people.

According to him, diplomacy helps not only to maintain cooperation and peaceful relations between countries but is also crucial in addressing regional issues.

African Affairs Director General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fisseha Shawel pointed out that the training equips diplomats with essential tools for navigating complex challenges.

The training for the South Sudanese diplomats is therefore expected to foster an environment conducive to discussing a wide range of topics, including negotiation strategies, and peace building, he added.

South Sudan Ambassador to Ethiopia, Natalina Edward Mou, veteran Ethiopian diplomats, and South Sudanese diplomats graced the opening ceremony.
