Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said that Ethiopia stands in solidarity with the people of Sudan during these challenging times.
The Prime Minister made this remark during a High-Level Humanitarian Conference for the People of Sudan held in Addis Ababa today.
The conference, co-hosted by Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, the African Union, and IGAD, aimed to mobilize regional and global support to address Sudan’s catastrophic humanitarian crisis and deliver a strong unified call for a humanitarian ceasefire during the month of Ramadan.
High-level officials, including Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, President William Ruto, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, IGAD Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu, and other representatives of international organizations took part in the conference.
During the occasion, Prime Mnister Abiy stated that Ethiopia and Sudan are deeply interdependent, bound by generations of shared struggles, aspirations and cultural ties.
Premier Abiy further noted that over the past six years, Ethiopia has actively supported Sudanese peace and sovereignty and contributed to its economic endeavors by providing electricity through a dedicated transmission line.
He urge donors, international organizations in the private sector to increase their contributions and help reach the severe resource gap faced by humanitarian actors.
“Despite our own challenges, we firmly believe that a neighbor in need is a neighbor Indeed. Therefore, Ethiopia plays a modest contribution of 15 million USD in solidarity with the people of the Sudan,” Prime Minister Abiy revealed.
As the holy Month of Ramadan approaching urgent action is required, Abiy stressed.
He further reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to stand with Sudan in its time of need, sharing from our limited resources and maintaining an open door policy for Sudanese seeking refuge.
