Ethiopia to Undertake Studies for Dev’t of 2nd Phase Integrated Agro Industrial Parks

Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Ethiopia’s Finance State Minister, Semereta Sewasew and the Managing Director of UNIDO, Gunther Beger signed “Enhancing Integrated Agro-Food Parks Development in Ethiopia, Phase II” Project today.

The project is aimed at supporting Ethiopia to develop additional three Agro Industrial Parks through feasibility studies, master plan preparation, undertaking environmental and social impact assessment and capacity strengthening of stakeholders.

These foundational tasks will be done with 1.5 million USD support of UNIDO, as mobilized from the AfDB.

On the occasion, Semereta and Gunther Beger stressed that the technical supports for the development of the parks is expected to contribute for the efforts to integrate the agricultural and industrial sectors.

The agreement will ultimately enhance the performance of the manufacturing sector.

Beger also mentioned that UNIDO will continue to support Ethiopia’s development priorities in every possible way.

Ethiopia has already built Bure, Bulbula and Yergalem Agro Processing Parks at a cost of 30 billion birr. The industrial parks are conducive to job creation, technology transfer, earning foreign currency and competitive investors.

Today’s agreement is aimed at supporting Ethiopia to develop additional three Agro Industrial Parks, according to Finance Ministry.
