Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Ethiopian Airlines has officially opened a range of advanced aviation facilities, including new hangars, a sophisticated Aircraft Component Shop, and a modern Aircraft Parts Store, built with a total investment of 150 million USD.
These projects, completed in two years, mark a significant advancement in the airline’s Vision2035 strategy aimed at improving Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities and supporting the growth of its fleet.
The inauguration ceremony took place today and was attended by senior government officials, diplomats, executives, and other esteemed guests.
These top-tier facilities demonstrate Ethiopian Airlines’ commitment to supporting its expanding fleet, enhancing operational efficiency, and solidifying its status as Africa’s largest and most reliable aviation group.
During the ceremony, Lieutenant General Yilma Merdasa, Ethiopian Air Force Commander and Board Chairman of Ethiopian Airlines, highlighted the importance of the new infrastructure on both a national and continental level.
He stated, “We are moving into a future where Ethiopia and our MRO capabilities are recognized globally. Investing in aviation is essential for strengthening our economy, enhancing national security, and fostering innovation.”
General Yilma also emphasized the airline’s broader mission, saying, “Ethiopian Airlines represents more than just a business; it embodies innovation, resilience, and pan-African success. Today, we reaffirm that legacy. While infrastructure is vital, it is the discipline, vision, and commitment to service that truly exemplify excellence.”
He acknowledged the teamwork that contributed to this achievement, commending internal departments like engineering and planning, as well as the support from international partners.
Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, underscored the significance of the investment. “This facility was completed in just two years, with a total investment of 150 million USD. It is crucial for us to meet the objectives set out in Vision2035,” he remarked.
As Ethiopian Airlines expands its operations both continentally and globally, these advanced facilities will provide a foundation for sustainable growth, innovation, and high-quality aviation services.
