Africa-Press – Ethiopia. The results achieved through the Made in Ethiopia movement thus far suggest that Ethiopia’s dream of becoming a manufacturing powerhouse is within reach, Industry Minister Melaku Alebel said.
Speaking at the opening of the 3rd Made in Ethiopia Expo today, the minister underscored that the progress in the sector indicates the country’s long-held aspiration for a strong manufacturing sector is closer than ever before.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed officially inaugurated the five-day event at the Addis Africa International Convention and Exhibition Center.
The expo highlights Ethiopia’s industrial capabilities under the Made in Ethiopia movement launched to accelerate the growth of manufacturing.
In his opening remarks, Melaku noted a marked improvement in the production capacity of local industries since the launching of the movement.
He attributed the growth to the government’s strong focus on the manufacturing sector and the successful implementation of initiatives aligned with Ethiopia’s Homegrown Economic Reform and the Ten-Year Development Plan.
“The outcomes we’ve seen over the past three years demonstrate that our vision of a prosperous, manufacturing-driven Ethiopia is within reach,” the minister underscored.
Looking ahead, he underscored the importance of sustaining current achievements and expanding into new industrial areas.
Special emphasis will be placed on launching industries that address rural challenges, particularly in irrigation and electricity, Melaku added.
The minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting industries involved in strategic import substitution, ensuring continuous oversight and assistance.
